The idea of the Sabbath was built into creation itself.
Here is Exodus, chapter 20, instructing the Israelites to rest one full day each week:
"Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.
Six days shall you labor and do all your work,
but the seventh day is a sabbath day of the Lord your God:
You shall not do any work -
you, your son or daughter,
your male or female slave,
or your cattle, or the stranger
who is within your settlements.
For in the six days the Lord made heaven and earth and sea,
and all that is in them, and He rested on the seventh day;
therefor the Lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it."
Everything that happens is an integral part of the master plan of creation.
Each one of us, and every circumstance of our lives,
is relevant and important to the overall purpose of existence.
The Baal Shem Tov said we must always maintain a settled mind, and not be in a rush.
"You must eradicate the swiftness."
Taking one full day of rest each week will completely change your life.
Turn off the electronics, take a long walk, prepare a good meal, pour a glass of wine, light candles and enjoy the fragrance of freshly baked bread. Rest and rejuvenate. This practice is as ancient as the world, and the idea of a sabbath day is part of creation itself.
It is worth training yourself to remove all negativity,
for we must rid ourselves of all fear, even justifiable fear.
'Metathinking' - think about what you are thinking!
It's cognitive behavior therapy, except it is ANCIENT! :)
